Reliving Happens with retrospect As I recall one midnight in spring when You gave me a final kiss goodnight Aggressive lips on my sweat-clammed forehead The distraught moon crying out to us, "I have loved through you for three years!" A pale blue curtain billowing into our bedroom window Distraught at the prospect of not being allowed To watch as we stroke each other's bare backs in a moment of tenderness I should hate the moon now For the memories she possesses That are bitter for me, and long gone for you But I do not For when I look at her, I see you As I knew you when our love was young And we would look at her, together Over a still lake Or a hotel balcony in a bustling city... I cannot relive, anymore, what should never have been alive
